A Cold Dark Night

This picture from Wired and the time of season reminded me of the story of Dr Richard Allison crawling out of bed in the middle of the night & riding his horse from present day downtown Cincinnati to Charlotte Chambers Ludlow's place in present day Northside around 1800.
There was, of course no artificial light, no paved roads, no heated leather seats. Well, the horse...
Not knowing the date, there's no way to know the phase of the moon nor how cloudy it was. Back then, the night sky in Cincinnati was clear and crowded with stars. Still, it must have been a dark, cold. lonely trip.

The Memoirs of Charlotte Chambers
