NPR is reporting that DC Comics is introducing the first mainstream transgender character in Batgirl. This almost seems like a step backwards, however for a genre full of trans species, biological mutants, radioactive mutants, body swapping, alien, cyborg, ghost, plant-animal characters. Compared to Congorilla & Metamorpho, transgender seems almost pedestrian.
