WWE Comes to the hamilton County GOP
While most of the attention at the 6/24/13 Cincinnati Budget committee meeting focussed on allocating more money for the Cincinnati Streetcar another vote DIDN'T take place.
Kid Monzel & his sidekick Greg Hartman vowed to stop Federally mandated sewer repairs and threaten the employment of who knows how many workers & incur all sorts of fines & higher prices after the City Council unanimously approved their onerous hard core liberal hiring rules proposed by the left of left Chris Seelbach. The kids got together & came out with a stop gap measure that they thought could get things moving again while they hammered out a new deal. Wendell Young, a Dumbocrip, was skeptical & not too trusting of the county Rebloodlicans. That's to be expected. But the bristling attack on the county Rebloodlicans by city council Rebloodlican Chuck the Windbag & Meta-Rebloodlican the SMLP was pretty, well, amusing.
So, now Seelbach & Monzel actually have to come up with something?
I'm thinking a tag team cage match with Smitherman & Winburn taking on Monzel & Hartman would be pretty cool.

The Fishwrap was pondering the political future of failed mayoral candidate Brad Wenstrup. Or, should I say failed first time candidate? While the last mayoral campaign was lame, to say the least, Wensttrup held his own ok, even if a significant portion of his votes might have been anti-Mallory votes.
Now HamCoGOP chair, Alex Triantafilou, wants to run his boy again. He's just not sure where.
Wenstrup appears to be into the whole public service thing & his work in the military bears that out. His first elective try being for an executive office was pretty far fetched. The HamCoGOP seems to not have a problem with this, tho. They like the idea of putting out a pretty face for the votes & then running the show from behind.
"Brad is not the kind of guy who sits around thinking about his next move on the chess board,'' said Hamilton County Republican Party (chair) Alex Triantafilou. "Frankly, I'm the one doing it for him. I want to see him run for office, and sooner rather than later."
While I doubt Wenstrup is the type to shoot from the hip, like presidential puppet George W Bush, his background in medicine & the military probably have him conditioned to be able to make quick & considered decisions. Triantafilou might want to ride his horse to the White House but I am thinking Wenstrup's background might make him a better candidate for Sheriff. He would need to find some law enforcement support for the position. Replacing the current chief deputy with a younger, more aggressive law enforcement wonk would be a good move for Wenstrup and the county as well. His medical and management experience would be good in managing jails. His military medical experience would lend itself to securing the courthouse. The more I think about it, the more the guy seems like the best candidate to replace Leis than I have seen for some time. It might not be the glory post Triantafilou might like, but from what I have heard of Wenstrup, he is not likely to want to be a pretty mouthpiece for a second rate Rovian-wannabe GOP puppet master. Maybe the local GOP should try to do what's best for the county than try to foil Democrats at every turn.
But he (Triantafilou), like others in Cincinnati political circles, are convinced that if suburban Hamilton County voters had somehow been able to vote on Cincinnati mayor this year, Wenstrup would be sitting in the mayor's ground-floor office at City Hall right now.
Can't argue with logic like that. Maybe if, somehow, Centaurs could vote.....
Why is the local GOP so pointless ?

A funny bit from the Conan O'Brien Show. I saw it over at the HCGOP blog & I was going to post a comment there but I couldn't.
Why ?
dunno
I guess the HamCoGOP doesn't want to hear from me. Guess they don't give a shit what the public has to say.
Seems like every time I hear Republicans speak nowadays they seem to be talking to aliens from outer space. They seem completely out of touh with what's going on here on Earth. Maybe because they don't listen to people who don't vomit their script back at them.
During the last primary season, the GOP presidential hopefuls all wore their religion on their sleeves and boasted about their religiousness. They all claimed the economy was AOK. The only dissenter was Ron Paul who discussed the essence of Christian morality in our foreign policy and warned of the impending economic meltdown. The other Republicans laughed at him and dismissed his ideas.
I was just reading about the 1940 political conventions. The ones that gave us Roosevelt and Willkie. The conventions were full of back stabbing double crossing hard core political dealing. But nowadays we have completely staged, boring, flaccid dog & pony shows where anybody who doesn't toe the party line is persona non grata. Like Ron Paul.
I guess that is what Alex Triantafilou wants his blog to be. It just seems to go against the spirit of what the founding fathers were after.
The cover article over at The American Conservative this month is How Radio Wrecks the Right.
It talks about how conservative talk radio lures in some dumb rednecks but does nothing to promote and actually hurts serious critical intellectual conservative conversation. Apparently Rush Limbaugh sees himself as the heir to William Buckley's mantle?!??!?!?
Locally, of course the standard bearer for conservatism on the radio is a rhetoric spewing controversialist with the delivery of a carny barker outside the freakshow.
And the party wants to field a local candidate who, as a preacher, told people they could get rich if they came to his church.....
Certainly not the Christianity of my parents.
I guess that's just how they want it.

BTW, Firing Line episodes are available at Amazon for about $9 - $10 a pop.
