This whole 'Gang of 5 controversy was manufactured scandal hatched bhind closed doors by radical Republicans, blinded in their blind ambition and lust for power to discredit their political rivals and sow disarray.
Cincinnati city councilman Chris Smitherman showed his absence of morality in trying to capitalize on his late wife's misfortune. In this Law and Public Safety meeting the officer making a presentation can barely make it through the presentation as Smitherman alternately gushes over the police and repeats that his wife has died and he cared for her for months while she suffered illness. He has accused council members of using racial slurs in their texts. He recorded his wife speaking and released the recording after her death (so much for rest in peace).
His cronies published personal txt messages that had nothing to do with the legal case for the sole purpose of fomenting disaccord on the city council.
His latest gambit is to do what he can to financially hurt his opponents by having them foot the bill for the outrageous costs charged by his cronies' law firm. He cares nothing about the taxpayers. He knows he is a weaker vote getter than PG Sittenfeld and Smitherman and his droogies are just doing everything they can to make up for his weaknesses in policy, character, and personality. Parallels to crooked Donald Trump are pretty obvious.

Note: the editors here at BiC were not keen on brining some of this up due to the notion of respecting the dead but given the councilman's total lack of such respect, we decided to respond in kind.

Apple's New Direction

On 3/25/19 Apple held an address outlining their new media services. Gaming? I now nothing. Magazines - I don't know why one would like to read New Yorker or Wired articles on small to tiny screens. The credit card thing sounds OK but not all that radical. At least they have a titanium card......
The TV part is kind of intriguing.
BUTIn the past, Apple has promoted the work done by the creatives who used their platform but in this latest keynote address it was all about Apple partnering with Vogue, The Wall Street Journal, HBO, CBS and other big boys.
There was no mention of how the little guy can use their distribution channels.
There was also no mention of horror.

How Important is Wage History ?

In a recent meeting of Cincinnati's Political Correctness Committee, the issue of barring free speech and banning employers from asking potential employees about their salary histories arose.
Of course it was couched in sexist terms, but, in my experience, employers didn't jump on the fact I was used to a lower wage - they just denied me employment.
The thing is, I had just been employed in a smaller town where the pay scale was less than in the big sexist Queen City. I had the skill & experience employers wanted, they were just biased against me because of my lower pay history.
SOLUTION - I started lying and then I got hired.

Commuters - Trying Something New With a Data Driven Approach

In a recent Budget & Finance meeting the dilemma of parking for workers in all the new businesses in OTR was brought up and agonized over.
The thing is, the problem isn't really parking so much as getting people to work & back home. And the rash of new businesses does create a new issue.
Greg Landsman as about the only councilman to mention transit altho a guy from Chatfield college did, and Landsman and Tamaya Denard both brought up making data driven decisions. Denard brought up finding new solutions.
So, how about this - survey the new business owners and Chatfield college about where their employees & students come from & when they come & go and then work with Metro to see if any routing & scheduling changes could accommodate these folks?

Is it Time to Embrace Our Prostitutes ?

Cities, counties, and states are competing for business and resident investment. Just look at what people are doing to recruit a new Amazon HQ. Ohio's Clark County, suffering population loss & declining wages despite the best efforts of Jim Jordan and Rb Portman. They recently unveiled a new plan to stabilise the county.
During the European colonisation of Africa, people sent erotic postcards home in an effort to entice new settlers.Perhaps it's time to stop demonizing and trying to 'cure' our prostitute class and embrace them as taxpayers and ambassadors for our communities.
BiC has long championed the legalisation, regulation, and taxation of 'the world's oldest profession'.
We could use them to market our cities, counties, and states as the European colonists did in Africa 100 years ago - except - we wouldn't be colonists. We would be helping our prostitutes and they would be helping the geater community.

Sky Burial at Wesleyan Cemetery ?

This bird, eating roadkill on Colerain Avenue near Cincinnati's Wesleyan Cemetery has been identified as a Black Vulture - a breed that has been absent SW Ohio for some time.
Turkey Vultures have resided here steadily.
While Cincinnati doesn't want to inter people in the cemetery nor invest in an auditorium / chapel, or outdoor cremation ovens, or a , people composting device, maybe performing sky burials at the rear of the cemetery would be a good source of revenue for the city with little investment.
What is a sky burial?
In the mountains of Tibet, burial & cremation aren't too handy due to shallow soil so they take their ded out, chop 'em up & throw the pieces to the buzzards, vultures, birds who eat them up.
They free the soul & provide nutrition for the birds.
With more carnivorous birds in the area it could offer people a new & exciting way to dispense with their remains.
