Cities, counties, and states are competing for business and resident investment. Just look at what people are doing to recruit a new Amazon HQ. Ohio's Clark County, suffering population loss & declining wages despite the best efforts of Jim Jordan and Rb Portman. They recently unveiled a new plan to stabilise the county.
During the European colonisation of Africa, people sent erotic postcards home in an effort to entice new settlers.Perhaps it's time to stop demonizing and trying to 'cure' our prostitute class and embrace them as taxpayers and ambassadors for our communities.
BiC has long championed the legalisation, regulation, and taxation of 'the world's oldest profession'.
We could use them to market our cities, counties, and states as the European colonists did in Africa 100 years ago - except - we wouldn't be colonists. We would be helping our prostitutes and they would be helping the geater community.

Springfield Gets One Right

Photo by Tim AyersIn all the demolitions in Springfield, OH, this was the one needed for decades. The Crowell Collier printing company closed in the mid 50s and the building sat, like an albatross for over half a century. It was a stark reminder of the thousands of layoffs just before Christmas that year and marked the end of the city's once proud manufacturing heritage.
It was used for a number of things over the years, it's where I first registered to vote, but was just a crumbling warehouse for a guy who was pretty much a pack rat in the past couple decades.
While the city tore down it's Veterans' Memorial concert hall, it's arcade, it's schools, it's bridges, it's train stations and it's entire fucking downtown, this leviathan stood resolute, a decrepit hulk, a rotting stinking corpse.
This should have been the first to go.
Hopefully someone can develop the site. Maybe recreate a downtown now that the mall is pretty much dead.

Bike Racks

Springfield, OH is set to receive $$$ from ODOT for bike racks. They should look at Cincinnati's Artworks ArtRacks Project, marrying local artists with local locations & local bicyclists.

My dear reader is looking at this thinking, "great, Quimbob, an old fucking Taco Hell. The 19¢ tacos are vaguely sentimental, but, so what?"
But this is not any Taco bell, dear friend, this is not only the first Taco Bell in Springfield, Ohio, it was the first Taco Bell east of the Mississippi!
Opened around 68-69 the place was constantly packed as people scarfed down the rare & exotic fare like the Bell Beefer or whatever the thing was that put taco ingredients on a bun.
The Lopez family quick;y expanded the tiny building & established more stores around town.
Open late, it was a great place to go after closing down the bars and a great place to watch high school kids fight in the parking lot after ball games. Burritos, beer & teenage fisticuffs - oboy...

Downtown Bob City

When I was a teenager, this is what my hometown downtown looked like. There's a building there now.
The building on the left is gone and replaced with a 7/8 scale hotel & the building center right is gone. The building on the right in the foreground is fairly abandoned & the tall building on the right is about condemned.
The Clark County Historical society is in the center left building in bustling heart of the city center.

They Walk Among Us

Sunnydale? Bon Temps? Add Springfield, Ohio to the list. Once a quaint happy town where everybody knew one another and everybody had a smile for one another.
Now it's overrun with vampires, werewolves & such. Fortunately we've got some middle aged guy & a couple teenage girls fighting to defend us with their Slayer Covenant.
The Daily Mail reports on a middle aged man who took his fantasy world seriously & enlisted teenage girls to join him.
It's kinda strange. I'm into a lot of the crazy science fiction, supernatural stuff Mr Edwards is into and, as such, frequently find myself in contact with young people & even kids online.
A. I keep my fantasy world out of the real world.
B. When I am dealing with yunguns, I am very guarded in what I say & frequently don't say anything. I sure as hell don't recruit kids.
In one of Edwards' videos he talks about how monsters exist. I think he got that right.

Good Fences Make Good Neighbors

What's a cemetery without a cool wrought iron fence around it - you know, with spikes ^ stuff up top? Unfortunately, when you have cars, you can't have nice stuff.
Ferncliff Cemetery, in Springfield, OH, has a problem with motorists losing control on a Bend in the road and careening into the cemetery destroying the expensive iron fence panels. They cost about $1,240 apiece and a car can take out 4 pretty easy. Apparently they stop the cars, tho…
FWIW, I never had any problem navigating that turn.
The latest chunk to get creamed wasn't on the bend, however, it was on a straight stretch of road.
I have seen this at Cincinnati's Spring Grove Cemetery, too. One of the few straight, flat stretches of Roadway in the city and people manage to veer off the road & destroy iron fences pretty regularly.
The corner of Spring Grove and Crawford, at the SW corner of the cemetery is so impossible to navigate the cemetery has moved their fence back incrementally over the years to accommodate the shitty drivers.

So, I guess the villain, a temptress, I guess, is the fence luring innocent motorists to their demise with their siren call, "come to me, come to me, crash, crash…".
I'm gonna go out on a limb here & say we need to quit handing out drivers licenses like candy at a parade & stop assuming peoples' driving skills never diminish. A reduced speed limit, Cemetery Zone, like a school zone might help but on streets like Winton Road, on the east side of Spring Grove Cemetery is a daredevil race track and any speed limit signs are pointless.

Any Bob City native over 40 should remember Jim's. Located near the Regent Theater on Limestone in hygienic Springfield, Ohio, Jim's serrved sodas & sandwiches to Ftogtowners for decades.
It's interesting to me to see how people's tastes have changed over the years. no more egg phosphates, egg malted milks, Green Rivers, and no more chopped olive sandwiches. I gotta say, it all looks pretty good to me. Especially the prices.
Jim ran the shop with his wife or sister. We never really figured it out. They would yell orders, etc. across the dining room and would frequently bicker.
My parents would dump me off at my grandmother's apartment on weekends and we would walk up to town, past the train station, to Jim's, the Regent & Woolworth's on Saturdays after sitting up watching old horror movies on Friday night - Chiller Theater.
oh well...
