Apple has been looking at streaming original content for awhile but is, apparently, ramping things up.
The comic books big celluloid has chosen so far has been interesting - from commercial to weird. Why the subset of The Mystery Men was chosen over it's parent, The Flaming Carrot was always baffling.

TV on the Honor System

Could there be another way to deliver TV content to the products (us)?
Instead of chopping up shows with commercials that people have been increasingly able to defeat and, online, can crash ones browser - how about giving the viewer a list of sponsors and maybe specific products - let the viewer purchase one or two - then, the sponsor would give the viewer a voucher he could use to download an uninterrupted show or even season of the shows.
I guess you'd have to figure out how much the sponsor usually receives from $ and unit sales. This method, however, would have the added effect of a confirmed sale and, issuing coupons, could confirm repeat sales.
The viewer would get a better experience and the sponsor would get better data.
I guess the only real drawback would be the viewer having to sit down and look thru the sponsors & their ads & buying shit online in advance.

But Nightly Business Report reports that sequels just ain't getting it. Especially bad sequels.

There are a lot of sequels that do very, very well. It may just be a quality problem. If the movie doesn’t resonate, if it’s not a good movie, it may not be a — that people are biased against sequels, they may just be biased against bad movies.

Cutting the Cable

As folks move away from the one size fits all cable TV model, the networks are delivering their content through their websites. That's great. They have different ways of doing it. Some make you wait a week to view online. Some let you view immediately but take down older shows. Some sites work OK with one browser but not with another. Fine, it's weird but I get it - we're still figuring it out. There's still advertising but, that's ok, the sponsors are the ones paying the bills.
BUTWhile most networks stream their content ok - Fox is about the worst, some of the advertisers are streaming from Mac IIs through a modem.
Witness the snippet of an ad that takes about 5 minutes to play - if it doesn't crash your browser of completely lose the connection. Watching a 1 hour show (that's less than an hour) can take up to an hour & forty five minutes with an ad like this playing at every commercial break. Ironically, it's the tech companies that are the worst. The candy companies ads are fine.
Fox gives you the option of watching one ad or just watch with regular ads throughout the show. Except that doesn't work - you still get the ads...
The ads on Fox & The CW (you can tell what we watch in the BiC breakroom) are the worst.
Thing is, this ruins the user experience and I'm guessing most people don't realize it's different companies streaming ads & shows. Unless they are doing this on purpose for the cable companies, they really need to set some standards on their advertisers.

Bond, James Bond

When I looked at an article about The Evolution of the Bond Girl, I realized I didn't recognize the majority of them and I pondered how long had it been since I saw a Bond movie.
For me, Sean Connery was James Bond.
But I don't think new Bonds was the turn off. No, I think the issue was that James Bond never evolved - pretty much the same thing with the Bond Girl...
While Jim might have dealt with some kinda Voodoo mumbo jumbo, he never dealt with a zombie apocalypse, he never dealt with killer robots like Ultron, he never dealt with subterranean insectoid space aliens, demon channeling occult masters, sexbots...
How can the character be sustained with such a stunted plot?

Legend's Stats

There's lies, damned lies, and statistics. Pop singer John Legend got into the numbers game when he received an Oscar for a song he composed for the movieSelma. He stated that the number of black males under the control of the criminal justice system in the US was comparable to the number of black male slaves in 1850.
OK, first of all, since he was talking about racial justice which was the theme of the movie Selma, I think that's AOK. If he had gone off on bullying, transgender stuff, vegetarianism, etc., that would have been off topic, so no problem there here.
But his numbers were kinda weird. The Washington Post went over the numbers and said he was "mostly right". They have the video there, too.
First of all, I was amazed at how many of the slaves were female in 1850. With 3.2M slaves less than 1M were male. You'd think the guys would be happy!
OTOH only about 10% of the black people were free.
While Legend was close on raw numbers, no blacks are officially enslaved in America today and only about 1-2% are incarcerated. I don't have any idea what the incarceration rate was in 1850. Actually I'm not sure of any of my numbers since the sites that cite such numbers are all trying to make some kind of point. The US does have one of the highest incarceration rates in the world with Seychelles and maybe North Korea being higher.
Overall, I would say equating black life in America today with America 165 years ago doesn't add up.

Cincinnati Makes the Not So Long List

The RNC has narrowed their 2016 convention site selection to Cincinnati, Cleveland, Dallas, Denver, Kansas City & Las Vegas.
Denver has legal pot & we all know how the GOP hates drug regulations.
Dallas has rednecks, lousy health codes, lots of low wage jobs & poverty and lousy schools - all GOP benchmarks of success.
Las Vegas has gambling, strippers, prostitution and lots and lots of booze.
Kansas City has a nice song named after it.
Clevo has Dennis Kucinich.
So where's that leave Cincinnati?
A lame casino, lotta crack whores, a coliseum that will likely be empty, a lot of left wing anarchist types, Charlie Winburn, CO   , CCV…
I honestly think one of the best things Cincinnati has to offer is potential protests & street violence that would give the convention more national & international media attention. For that matter, Cleveland would probably do fine, too.
Still, I'm going to put my bitcoins on Dallas or Las Vegas. The GOP is strong in the south & there will be more opportunities to hoodwink hispanics there.
