Come ON, Dayton !
This video discusses the Cleveland Arcade which is seriously awesome. I grew up haunting the much more modeest but still cool Springfield Arcade which was left to rot, mismanaged, denounced as a haven for hippies and subsequently demolished & replaced with a weird 7/8 scale hotel.
Cincinnati killed theirs way back in the 20s.
The Gem City still has it's arcade but it is falling apart & could easily disappear despite the valiant efforts of the Friends of the Dayton Arcade.
This should not happen. It doesn't have to. Maybe the Dayton Arcade could someday host a Libertarian or Green convention.

Racism and Intimidation ?
A billboard in Clevo essentially states facts. It was paid for by an out of state organization that, apparently, just loves Ohio. But groups up there claimed the billboards were tantamount to racism & intimidation & wanted the billboards taken down. When the billboard owners, Fear Charnel, found an issue with their clients anonymity they did remove the billboards. It says on the billboards who sponsored them so I don't understand the anonymity thing.
Thing is, if you run around making frivolous claims of racism & intimidation, people will stop taking you seriously. It's happened with the GOP's hyperbole over voter fraud. I say, let 'em post their pointless billboards - they're only wasting their own money. If you're afraid you are committing voter fraud - you probably are.

Proper Casino Attire ?

The Clevo Horseshoe casino has posted a sign out front with some rules for behavior & dress. No word yet on what the Porkopolis casino will do along these lines. While th Fishwarp reports that 'sagging pants' will be banned, what it actually says is that pants will be worn around the waist. Theoretically, this would ban fat rednecks who wear their pants under their gut (like me) & girls with low cut pants. These aren't the groups they are planning on banning, of course. The rules also state that face coverings are not allowed. While I doubt anybody wearing a burqa is going to go drinking & gambling, it does raise the question of religious freedom. And before anybody claims it's private property - they can do what they want- no, they are there by the will of the people and are heavily taxed & regulated by the representatives of those people. We can tell 'em what to do.
Interestingly, they don't mention colors. Dunno how long you can sit before you are considered a loiterer. It would be damn nice if some local stores banned running screaming kids.
No word on busty gals lying around on the gaming tables in their utrou yet, either.

As usual, it rained. Dunno how many times I stood in the rain watching this band. Kansas (ack !) and Peter Tosh (yay !) opened. A motorcyclist rode around on a cable.
We piled a bunch of people into Phil's van & drove up to his grandfather's house in a neighborhood that had been extremely Polish in years past. The idea was to have granpa drive us to the stadium so we would not have to fool with parking & traffic. yeah, we'll dump that on the old guy. I had met him before & he was pretty cool. He was a WWI vet and a retired pharmacist. When we walked into his house he screamed at us in German & English & I must have understood him or my survivor instincts kicked in 'cause I closed the door the last guy in had not closed and apologized. One of the other guys commented, "The old guy went crazy and started yelling at us in tongues & shit & Quim started leaping into action. I didn't know what was going to happen !"
The party outside the stadium prior to the doors opening was pretty cool. Dunno if it was a Cleveland thing. Kinda like in 30 Rock where everyone in Cleveland is just super nice, I dunno.
My patch of friends was, of course, cheering & dancing to Peter Tosh and sitting around getting stoned while Kansas played which seemed to be the opposite of how 90% of the rest of the crowd handled the day.
The Stones were touring the album, Some Girls. The title track of that album earned some controversy. It was a parody of a macho guy rambling on about stereotypes of women based on ethnicity. Jesse Jackson was appalled at the description of black girls but seemed to have no problem with the other dozen or so stereotypes. hm

Anyone familiar with the Clevo music scene of the 70s (Devo, Pere Ubu, The Dead Boys) should know the name of Peter Laughner. Smog Veil Records has been working nearly 3 years on a Peter Laughner retrospective. They are looking at a 2009 release.
