While many believe that JR Bob Dobbs will be be resurrected to use his holy deal making skills to save Earth from the aliens from Planet X when they come to repossess Earth & enslave the human race.
As we plod towards the imminent end times will this occur or will Donald Trump be the salesman we need to save us from the aliens?
He polls well with Subgenius Slackers who revere his dealmaking skills & follies, but will they be enough to elect him president?
Does he have to be president to save us?
Could JR Bob Dodds resurrect, as he has so many times before & thwart Trump & make the deals himself?
Only time will tell, and what is time?

Kentucky's Ark Park intends to hire hundreds of workers for low paying unskilled labor. Catch is, you must first profess your Christianity. They say they accept any form of Christianity but who knows.

so, some chick in beefy Omaha has decided to file a lawsuit against all homosexuals. She claims to be the Ambassador of God.
I don't know how they are going to subpoena the invisible man in the sky who needs money but I'm sure they will find a way. When they do, and prividing God has suitable state issued photo ID, we might finally find out if God really exists.

The Covered Girl Challenge

Teenage Muslim girls wanted to get non Muslim girls to wear a hijab for a day in far off Mason, OH. The school announced it like it was a school event and the xenophobic parents went all jihad on the school for trying to convert their kids to Islam. The principal freaked out and the liberty loving patriots prevented their kids from making the free choice to wear a hijab or not.
Why? Would they object to the head gear or clothes of Christian sects?
Some people compared wearing the head gear to forcing a non Christian to wear a crucifix on a necklace. The crucifix is a completely religious symbol. Anybody can wear a scarf.
People, mainly males, claimed the hijab represented the subjugation of women. These same men wanted to prohibit the girls from wearing the hijabs for a day - pretty much subjugating them for their freedom.
yeah, I don't get it.
Here's the deal, tho. Our society is, if not just getting more secular, it's moving from the sacred to the profane. People aren't dressing up and going to churches dripping in symbolism but going to rehabbed warehouses, hardware stores & movie theaters while wearing their street clothes. They don't listen to sacred music, they listen to crappy rock music.
Maybe wearing a 'sacred' garment, from any religion might get a person to examine his spirituality a bit more.
Meanwhile I'm looking forward to the boys wearing a long beard for a day at school.

The Divine Horsemen

This movie filmed around 1950 was made by Maya Deren, a dancer who became interested in film. While a book by the same name was published, the film was not finished & released till after she died.
This movie was shot on that stuff called "film" and is really worthwhile to watch on DVD. Also, there is a section on 'Animal Sacrifice' that some people might want to skip which would also be easier to do on DVD.
Overall, a decent & easy intro to Vodou.

The Holy Order of the GOP

These guys get at what I call, The Holy Order of the GOP. They get at why youngun's aren't going to the old churches. Schaeffer is, apparently an Eastern Orthodox Christian which kinda sets him apart with the wild evangelical christians even tho he & his parents were involved with establishing 'The Moral Majority' movement.
Frankly I see the same movement under many names, The Silent Majority, The Moral Majority, Neocons, The Tea Party... All basically the same & changing nuances over time to take over a political party. The fervor of the GOP is a good match for these guys. The corporate message that resonates in the religioustic orders is both silly and frightening.
Anyway, I'm no great fan of these guys but they're pretty right on this.

Is Cincinnati's new parking meter policy, which introduces Sunday enforcement, part of the Global War on Christianity?
Canceling Sunday bus hours, starting Sunday streetcar hours late, are all on the table as the Regime of John Cranley moves to make it harder for people to get to church.
This seems to be in line with the plans of the alien insectoids to break the will of the human race, first with poisonous miniature drone/bug bites and now the death of religion in a thousand cuts sort of strategy.

Cults

On this date in 1978, almost 1,000 people in Jim Jones' Jonestown compound committed suicide at the will of their leader.
Locally an Ohio legislator & the head of a local organization, Ark by the River Fellowship Ministries, were convicted of receiving stolen property. Prosecutors labelled the organization a cult.
Some might argue that any religion is a cult but in my peabrain, a cult puts the leader above it's followers. That was the case of The Peoples Temple & The Branch Davidians.
Wonder if we'll get any more details on this. At least it wasn't a violent ending.

Should Halloween be a National Holiday ?

Well, there's a petition on White House . gov to make the revered holiday a little more official. Some anarchists are afeared of having the gummint in charge but the local police, sheriffs & other officialistic nosferatu are already setting begging hours. Maybe, with some hamfisted over the top legislation we could get holiday displays in stores to not overlap.
As I write this, the petition is about 98,000 short with a deadline of 10/31, so…
no, really, I am guessing the throngs of fans of Blogging Isn't Cool can put this over the 100,000 mark in a few days.

ISIS v. Golden Dawn

US Vice President, Joe Biden, has vowed the country will follow the terrorists who decapitate reporters, kidnap & enslave women, slaughter Christians in churches and other wonderful things to the gates of Hell.
Nevermind that they seem to be heading in the wrong direction because we all know The Gates of Hell are in sunny Greece.
So if the nationalist, religionist ISIS heads into Greece Will they be met by the nationalist, religionist Golden Dawn?
An interesting concept as the two areas have pretty much been at war for a few thousand years.
But who would win?
I'm going with ISIS in the first round but, if the nationalist Christianists of the world fall in with the Golden Dawn, I think they might prevail in the long run. Unfortunately the nationalist Christianists have no use for Greece since the country is broke. Funny how that works.

Mark of the Beast

While I get the magic oriented theocratic OCA wants to ban gay marriage, abortion, child birth aid, stem cell stuff & other 'unnatural' things and toss out the First Amendment along the way, their latest scheme is a little different.
They are pushing hard for everybody who wants to vote to have a government issued photo ID.
That's nothing Christian. If anything, it's more like anti christ type stuff as in Mark of the Beast? Maybe they think your own mark, your signature, is some kind of horrible gnostic crap assuming too much personal divinity.

Churches and Bicycles

Living in an older American Community, Cincinnati, Ohio, I see an issue that I want to correct but don't know how.
In the rust belt cities a crucial element of their development was the church and a significant remnant of the built environment are the churches.
With population decline and people (like myself) being less inclined to attend churches they are increasingly being abandoned or floundering.
Stand in front of First Lutheran on Race St & look around. You can see about a half dozen churches and when blocked from view, you can see even more steeples. Some of these churches are active, some abandoned, and some active churches are desperately floundering. One is being transformed into a bar.
In the Northside neighborhood of Cincinnati there are about a dozen churches but only about 3 still minister to their original denomination. One is a cookie factory, one is a home (but used to be a pickle factory, GAR HQ and, I think, a Turner HQ).
Churches minus religion are, essentially community centers but how many community centers do we need? People who do attend churches are more likely to go to mega churches located in big box hardware stores & movie theaters & such. Don't get me started on the sacred & the profane on these matters…
So, what do we do with them?
Religion is not immune to the free market & is constantly evolving to remain relevant to the evolving societies it is in. When the Protestants split off from the Catholic Church, the Catholics didn't just sit on their hands. When American Protestants flocked to the Catholic Christmas services, the Protestant churches started offering them, too. The Catholic church begrudgingly accepted divorce & now some churches are accepting same sex marriage.
I've been meaning to address this issue but it goes beyond one post. What got me to actually typing today was an announcement made by the Queen City Bike club listing their Bike Friendly Destinations. There is one church on the list. Dunno why - maybe QCB didn't reach out to the churches. But, with the rise in popularity of bicycling, maybe just reaching out to cyclists might be a way for existing churches to remain relevant, infuse some new blood & maybe thrive again.
A long time ago I ran across a group called The Out Spokin'. Yeah, corny…
They were a Christian group that did group bicycling/camping trips. They seemed almost military in their organization but they all had to rely on each other to do their chores, repairs & stuff so they built some kind of bond (kinda cultish, maybe…).
Anyway, I know chasing bicyclists isn't going to fill the pews up anytime soon but I will likely have more lame ideas to revive the churches & revitalize midwestern cities.
PS, I might be out soon to attend The Bilderberg meetings. Dunno, my invitation appears to be lost in the mail

Ohio Follows Arizona

Ohio Christian Alliance reports that, after nutjob Jan Brewer shot down Arizona's Religious Freedom act (lampooned here by Jon Stewart), the Ohio general Assembly shelved, indefinitely, it's (mysteriously) similar legislation, the Religious Freedom Restoration Act, H.B. 376. The reason being, 'while the legislation stemmed from a well-meaning place, they don't want to allow for confusion around the issue.'
Apparently, the OCA & the CCV are very disappointed in their loss of freedom to discriminate and ram their extremist agenda down Ohioan's throats. How confusing is that?

Beer & Politics

A big government, tax & spend Democrat, Rep. Dan Ramos, of Lorain has proposed House Bill 391 that reduces business regulations by increasing the maximum percentage of alcohol allowed in beer sold or produced in the state from 12 to 21 percent. This would bring it line with alcoholic beverages like wine that are already sold in stores.
Meanwhile, small government, business friendly Republican AG Mike Dewine is generally opposed & wants to maintain the nanny state double standard system already in place.
Pretty typical for Ohio….
