Will Supermodels Be The Weapon To Thwart The Rise Of The Machines ?
One of the most insidious ways the robots will use to infiltrate & defeat us will be to act as benign domestic servants. They will enter our homes acting obediently as they iron our socks and make us meals that make us very sleepy afterwards.
With any luck we can replace the robodomestics with supermodels and we can use the heads of our would be oppressors as simple fashion accessories.

cemeteries in the future
A recent article in The Atlantic asked what's in store for the future urban cemetery.
One of the biggies involves media & display tech.
When I was a kid, I envisioned a granite juke box. But back then the electronics were bulky & fragile and would not long survive the elements of the midwest. A lot of those issues have been eliminated lately. 2 media things that would be kinda cool, would be LED screens playing an ever evolving fractal animation. I think this could be applied to music as well.
One of the things in the article is holograms of the deceased. Couple this with the AI tech some weirdohs are developing so you can talk with your virtual dead loved one. add in the evolving fractal component and you can converse with your dearly departed as their conversation becomes some oddly recognizable Jabberwocky.
If you think cemeteries are creepy now - the future looks dark.

Open Season on the Funeral Industry
Not content with crashing into hearses and terrorizing funeral processions, motorists are taking their genocidal hysteria up a notch by slamming their vehicles directly into the funeral homes in Middletown.
The mad blood lust of the homicidal auto-cyborg has acquired a taste for formaldehyde, too.

Rewarding Failure
Ohio Governor John Kasich campaigned on a platform of putting Ohio back to work. Ohio like the rest of the world was in economic freefall due to crappy banking practices. Since then, the economy is stuttering back and, as Kasich blamed the failure on his Democratic opponent, he is claiming the improving world economy is his doing.
Unfotunately, a recent report indicates Ohio, in particular, is doing very poorly in that comeback.
Screwing teachers, firefighters, police, transit, the poor & middle classes in general, Kasich has been an incredibly bad governor for Ohio. His penchant for secrecy has probably hidden more douchebaggery that won't b uncovered till he's out of office. Re-electing Kasich would be rewarding (and continuing) failure.
I don't know if Ed Fitzgerald's policies will make Ohio an economic powerhouse but he probably is the guy to untangle Kasich's web.

The Bag (factory) Lady
Actual Google Street View image
In the afternoons, when she was more alert, she would always cross the street to avoid me as we passed on our reverse routes.
One day, there was some street closure and our mutual bus stop was cut off and the bus was detoured about 3 blocks from the south & 2 blocks from the north. As the bag lady and I approached I crossed the street to tell her that she would have to change her plans. She looked at me in a subdued panic & after I explained the situation to her, she mumbled an "oh, thanks" turned her head down & walked on. In probably 10 years that was the only time I ever heard her voice.
Anyway, now she is blurrily immortalized temporarily in Google Street View at the bus stop.

TMZ Fishwarp Style
While a gubernatorial campaign is on in Ohio, the Fishwarp has been all about the Democratic candidate's driver's license & pretty much gone totally TMZ on the guy while, in general, ignoring the actual issues. When Ed Fitzgerald spoke to Cincinnati Rotarians the FW reporter was astonished nobody asked about that story. Think of that.
Should the county invest in salt mines ?
Somehow, over crowding at the jail seems to have become a complete non issue. Salt on the other hand seems to have become an issue.
While Cincinnati intends to pay $75/ton, Hamilton county, flush with cash, is intending to spend $106/ton. Cincinnati intends to buy less salt & salt less. This, no doubt, is part of John Cranley's agenda of focussing on core services.
But salt prices have gone up significantly. HamCo is paying more than twice what it paid last year.
So, here's my idea, and it's not a new one. The BiC historians actually came up with this cost saver. Buy some salt mines & have county prisoners work the things.
Sure there would be some up front costs and pesky left wing human rights organisations might squawk, but this is SWOH, where we like going medieval.
Anyway, hope the Windbag is keeping an eye out on this.

ISIS v. Golden Dawn
US Vice President, Joe Biden, has vowed the country will follow the terrorists who decapitate reporters, kidnap & enslave women, slaughter Christians in churches and other wonderful things to the gates of Hell.
Nevermind that they seem to be heading in the wrong direction because we all know The Gates of Hell are in sunny Greece.
So if the nationalist, religionist ISIS heads into Greece Will they be met by the nationalist, religionist Golden Dawn?
An interesting concept as the two areas have pretty much been at war for a few thousand years.
But who would win?
I'm going with ISIS in the first round but, if the nationalist Christianists of the world fall in with the Golden Dawn, I think they might prevail in the long run. Unfortunately the nationalist Christianists have no use for Greece since the country is broke. Funny how that works.

What Happens to the Ohio Casinos
The Biz Currier is reporting Federal lawsuit being fiked against the casino.
Between liuor code ciolations, cigarette violations, age violations, shootings in the garage, dope dealing in the garage or bathrooms, prostitution…
There's a bout a million things that could close down a casino in Ohio & Cincinnati. Every year they do close a bar or two. The owners move on, the location is rented or sold & somebody lse moves in.
Due to the way we voted in this casino, complete with management, ownership and an exact location - what do we do if the gummint closes the place down?
Will the state have to vote for a new owner/manager?
I so wish we had just gone the licensing route like Las Vegas.

The Dark Carnival In Cranley's Mind
Cincinnati mayor, John Cranley, who has yet to prove he is not a shape shifting alien lizard man has taken a tip from the crack transportation gurus of BiC. As proposed here, Cranley believes that not adhering to a predictable schedule, he can make the Cincinnati Streetcar a more financially successful enterprise.
The Fishwarp skips some of his out & out lies in an article here
Of course, BiC already reported on this ehre
What the Hell
Now that Fred Kundrata, Marek Tyszkiewicz, and Sean Patrick Feeney are household names and veteran Cincinnati politician & activist Jim Tarbell has knocked our socks off with the campaign slogan, "What the Hell Write In Tarbell!", I guess we can sit back, say, "What the hell…", and let the incumbents walk away with the elections.
Heck, the HamCoDems aren't even doing much to promote Christie Bryant - not that they have to, since it's pretty much a black Democrat lock.
What the hell...

How Much More Can Cranley Spend ?
Dude is nuts. He's looking at every way possible to derail the Cincinnati Streetcar that already has substantial investment but he's also wanting to spend more money to re-engineer a dangerous highway exit ramp that had been slated for removal 10 years ago.
Cranley's new ramp, conceived in a fairly Monzellian manner will only cost $35M and will not have much impact since there's another ramp about a mile down the road. The city does not have $35M but that's OK.
What's really killing the city however is the crushing cost of operating a streetcar @$3M/yr. Never mind that Cranley is the only person in the world who thinks construction of said streetcar is running behind schedule & over budget (wait - didn't he 'pause' work & squander about a million dollars??), what are the chances that this new interchange will be on time and on budget?
This is the guy the spending

The New Stalins
When Bill Burroughs said there would be no more Stalins, I don't think he had social media & the intertubes in mind. Granted the people using the relatively new communication portals are indeed finding themselves intheir positions quite by accident but nowadays people are finding they can silence or 'disappear' a person with the tap of a button. It's almost like something out of a 1960s British science fiction movie.
People try having forummers deleted due to their profile pictures. If admins won't do it the offended appeal to their corporate gods. People are and their posts picked off by admins who make unilateral decisions in the blink of an eye without consulting their co-administrators.
Just in recent weeks I have seen so many immature, knee jerk attacks here and there by administrators, against administrators and between forummers - it's making my head spin.
Horror Sells
The Burril's do the ice bucket challenge with, of course, red ice water.
What else would the independent horror film makers use?
They're most famous work, likely being Chainsaw Sally, the strict moralist librarian with a penchant for revenge and mayhem.

Brown - Feel the Crave!
With Burger King making moves to maybe move to Canada, home of bankrupting socialized health care. Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown is urging people to go with the crave and eat at White Castle instead of Burger King.
I'd say it's kind of un-American to support a fast food chain that supports classism anyway.
wait - does a castle support classism?
My head hurts.
Anyway, he also suggests people get their junk food on at Ohio based Wendy's.
It all seems kind of silly but I really dislike tax dodgers.

Dodds Monuments
Kind of a cool ad for a memorial company. I like the way it pushes the traditional, the eternal, and the contemporary in just a few seconds.
FWIW, this business is in Xenia, OH. When the town got creamed by a tornado in the spring of 1974, everything across the street from the seriously cool building got flattened. Dodds stood firm with not even a broken window.

Choosing a Loser
I'm really torn. The HamCoDems had a primary & picked a guy, Sean Feeney to tun for Hamilton County Commissioner. The Republican incumbent, Chris Monzel ran unopposed.
Monzel pissed off a lot of people by thwarting the people's right to vote & concocting a half assed 'compromise' regarding an "Icon Tax", a move that also proved divisive socially.
So, looking vulnerable, the HamCoChair starts looking for more viable candidates to replace Feeney. Feeney refused to step aside and now Jim Tarbell, who ran a REALLY terrible campaign against Monzel, has stated he will run as a write in candidate.
Great. A split democratic ticket. A spit Democratic ticket didn't hurt Truman but Lincoln definitely benefitted from one.
As I write this, Tarbell hasn't even announced of his candidacy on FaceBook that he is in the race. Takes like 1 sentence? (I have been told he tweeted a notice)
Feeney is waiting for money and endorsements and doesn't appear to be campaigning.
Looks like Monzel, one of the failingest politicians in theworld universe, has a cakewalk to re-election.
So, what to do? Do I vote for the kid who followed the democratic process? Do I vote for the more qualified but passively opportunistic Tarbell?
We're in this situation because Hamilton County Democrats were asleep at the wheel or Burke & Triantifilou brokered another sweetheart deal. Hamilton County should be able to do better. Even the winner of this race is going to be a loser.

Let's Kill the Dead !
WKRP story here.
Rise of the Sex Machine
Since we last posted about the opportunity to use robotic sex workers on McMicken Ave., our researchers have been bombarded with more & more reports about the advances robots will be making in the near future in, most notably, the world's oldest profession.
Dude in New Zealand predicts that by 2050, VD will be rampant and robot hookers "of every ethnicity" will be roaming the dance floors of bars & discos. Mimicking sex is going to be a lot easier than navigating a dance floor….
NBR reports the rise of AI & robotics will increase unemployment and shrink the middle class even more. You won't have a job, joy riding in your car is going to get creamed with driverless cars. Movies are just going to be all CG using plots and scripts not much different than the formulaic tripe we get out of humorless Hollywood boardrooms today.
Face it, there's not going to be a whole lot to do except lie around screwing your companionbot all day. It's got a name, too, Technosexualism.
In this fairly NSFW video one can see a partnerless 'Roxxy' show off her moves. Nothing pornographic, but if you do watch this in a public place, be prepared laugh loudly & maybe pee your pants a little.
Roxxy appears to be the state of the art in sexbotics with an AI that allows her to interact verbally and she is also supposed to have moods. Great, just what a guy wants from a robot...
Her face isn't creepy at all…
You can get additional personalities
- Frigid Farrah
- Wild Wendy
- S&M Susan
- Young Yoko
- Mature Martha
Then there's the male sexdroid Rocky, who is a one size fits all sorta thing. No quadruple amputee model.
There's no indication the sex machines are set up for homosexual compatibility.
But here's the deal with Rocky & Roxxy, there's no real pictures of them on the site. No videos showing a person interfacing with the bots. The website & videos suck for a business that's theoretically so tech savvy.
oh well, I guess he's got 36 years to get the dance floor navigation down.
One of the businesses looking to employ robots is the hotel industry. While currently just looking at room service & concierge functions, it seems this would be a great opportunity to engage the robo companion as well and it would only have to navigate hallways & elevators.
I wonder, if in the future, when your sexdroid's batteries crap out, using it anyway will be some taboo, sorta necro-technosexualism...

DANGER
Moms Against _____________ is demanding Kroger stores not allow open carry guns in their stores.
Kroger has reported 16 shootings in their 2,640 stores in 34 states in some amount of time. Most of the shootings were in the south. Assuming that the stores are open 24/7…
well, seems pretty safe. Wonder if they keep track of people crashing their cars into each other as customers enter & exit the parking lots.
I would actually prefer a gun owner keep his gun on him, safe & under control than leave it unattended in his car out in a parking lot thick with panhandlers & thieves.

Dissent in The Local GOP
After Judge Mark Painter called out some local Republicans for being "knaves and fools"
The blue-ribbonest committee ever, chaired by an ex-P&G head (now a Cabinet member), and including four Fortune-500 CEOs, the largest area construction companies and facilities operators, and many other experts, developed a detailed plan to save two major historic buildings. Countless hours of time were donated to the "most-vetted" plan ever.HamCoGOP chair shot back on social media,
In a breathtaking display of chutzpah compounded by ignorance, two Commissioners, Chris Monzel and Greg Hartmann, at the last minute concocted a back-of-napkin alternate scheme that even they can't explain. And Monzel is not even sure he will vote for his own plan!
Regardless of where you are on museum tax, we should all agree that Mark Painter is a clown. He was almost as bad as Tracie Hunter. #phonyThen he went on to say, when called out on it by the Fishwarp on more social media…
I hope everyone reads Mark's attack on Republicans. Personally vindictive and hateful, he needed a reply. And I'm glad I did.So, now the GOP bully who tries to fuck with people on BS voter fraud charges & trumps up bogus campaign charges on political opponents is complaining about somebody being mean to him?
The Shaver Mysteries
Amazing Stories, Ray Palmer, Richard Shaver, Harlan Ellison, William Bullwer-Lyton, Helena Blavatsky, racial memory, ancient aliens, conspiracy, torture, depraved alien lust, slavery…
A radio interview from 1956 discussing The Shaver Mysteries, the Deros, Teros, their lives underneath the Earth's crust, their use of rays to effect humans & their infiltration of human society. The pulp stories by an insane writer who insisted they were real and supported in their authenticity by his editor & publisher were still suspected of maybe being real 10 years after their publication.

Suicide
There's a saying that life is for living. Trite, easy to remember…
yay
But it has a ring of truth. Every living thing spends it's life trying to survive. It's what living crap does. Take a blade of grass. What's going on in your yard is a desperate war for survival. And for what?
Human society has so much weird ass abstract bullshit going on. It's amazing anybody makes it out of their teens with all the ridiculous anxiety a kid goes through.
But as the Libertarians say, if you don't have the control of your own body, then you're just a slave. Wendy O Williams' purported suicide note expressed this perfectly.
If you want to kill yourself, TELL somebody, talk to somebody, anybody because you're not thinking right. You're a mammal. That's not what mammals do.
yay

I don't believe that people should take their own lives without deep and thoughtful reflection over a considerable period of time. I do believe strongly, however, that the right to do so is one of the most fundamental rights that anyone in a free society should have. For me, much of the world makes no sense, but my feelings about what I am doing ring loud and clear to an inner ear and a place where there is no self, only calm.I agree 100%, but go back to the blade of grass. Not wanting to survive, wanting to put an end to your life isn't normal. It's not part of our basic DNA. It's dumbass society fucking with you.
If you want to kill yourself, TELL somebody, talk to somebody, anybody because you're not thinking right. You're a mammal. That's not what mammals do.

Android SexBots on McMicken Avenue ?
creepy creepy people
other plans are to humiliate Johns and make attempts to ruin their family lives.
Since legalization & regulation are off the table, how about replacing the fleshbags with shiny sex robots?
Easy to maintain (probably be a good job opportunity for old pinball machine mechanics), no STDs, no pesky unions, no lost souls…
What could go wrong?
Well, if the robots are still illegal, the fights between the hookerbots battling for turf could get pretty crazy, but hopefully that won't happen. Organizations that have a lot of clout in SW Ohio, like OCA, CCV, CO , NA CP and the Baggers, who love to scream & complain and pass legislation without thinking about the consequences could make that happen, tho. Given CO 's paranoia about technology, they would probably terrify people with tales of whordroids built with guillotine apparatus installed. The NA CP would likely come up with rumors of spreading deadly diseases exclusively to black guys. The folks at CCV would probably want their own.
Maybe they would fly (can you imagine?) in Cleveland, but I don't think SW Ohio is quite ready for these things.

faith & Begorra
In an amazing semi turnaround, The Fishwarp has published a bland press release about the Hamilton County Fair without any gloom & doom horror stories.
Since the 4H abandoned the fair for fairly racist reasons, attendance at the fair has steadily risen. This, of course, takes some of the wind out of the sails of the blowhard 'Warp lamenting the slow agonizing death of the fair.
The one time a drunk fired a pistol in the air outside the entrance has drifted off the radar…
Maybe we might see some positive coverage later in the week!
Maybe the fair will update their website later this week...

Hamilton County Commissioners have decided they want more, more, MORE in regards to the so called, 'Icon Tax' and have decided to monkey around with it a bit more at the 11th hour. Should Automobiles Come With Warning Labels ?
When ascertaining wether a person is an addict or not, asking the person if they have changed their behavior to accommodate their addiction. With the common automobile addict, he frequently won't go to places due to a real or perceived lack of parking for his car, regardless as to how easy it might be to get to said place via walking, riding a bike, taking mass transit or using a cab.
Add to this the health issues that driving can cause with cardiovascular disease, diabetes, hyper tension, obesity and other problems that come with the sedentary lifestyle of the motorist.
And to top it off, there's the possibility of death, dismemberment, and paralysis that can result from flying around at a mile a minute amongst a sea of other motorists doing the same thing.
Seems a large warning label posted clearly on the hood of every car in America is what we need to warn people of the potential dangers of this appliance.

Dark Side of the SDCC pt2
WXIX came up with this headline for this story about sexist behavior at the San Diego Comicon.
I never really did the comic book convention thing and when I did, there weren't that many people dressing up in super hero outfits. The WXIX story discusses how women who dress up like super heroines & fantasy characters, they resent people taking pictures of them. Sorry, that's just part of going out in public in a crazy outfit.
However, blogger, editor, and writer Valerie D'Orazio has brought up other issues that are not ok. She found the working staff at comic book companies to be very sexist. She also noticed at conventions, the fans love getting their pictures taken with the comic book creators. Most of the fans are geek boys and they usually stand next to the male artists & writers smiling. But when they pose with the females, they are always putting their arms around them. The XIX article claims much groping of the women is common. Dunno if the hugging is part of the groping. The thing is, it goes much deeper than what XIX covers.
Here's the deal, if you go out in a weird costume, expect people to oggle, but your right to swing your fist ends at my nose. That is, keep your hands to yourself.
If you've seen The Big Bang Theory, those guys are not far off. Most comic fans aren't physicists, however.

Dark Side of the SDCC pt1
I was at a parade recently and a couple people who were 'caught' by the parade were really surprised when a police officer informed them that they could not drive out onto the street against the parade.
Similar arrogance was seen in San Diego the other day when motorists were 'caught' by a Zombie Walk parade held in conjunction with the San Diego Comicon. The walk was not an official function of the Convention.
While most all the drivers accepted the insanity, one driver couldn't tolerate it, started blasting his horn and began to just force himself through. As parade members expressed their outrage, hitting the car & it's windows, the driver decided to just pound down on the accelerator as he drove through the crowd. One person was hospitalized and may not have even been involved with the parade.
Police have said that charges will likely not be filed.

The Boring Banks
Not if the intention is resemble a suburban branch bank, however it wasn't too long ago, well, OK, about 10 years ago, we were treated to renderings like the one above to help envision the new part of downtown.
I think a pyramid would be cool. It would kinda be like bookends on Ohio wht with Clevo hosting the RnRHOF.
oh well, It's all just going to collapse next time the New Madrid fault shifts and turns Cincinnati and a few other midwest cities into Port Au Princes...
Here is the original plan.
Should Cincinnati Build a Floating Necropolis ?
yeah, I know most of the river belongs to KY but what the heck?
This Necropolis is meant to float in the middle of the Dead Sea.

This Columbarioum is designed to float off the shore of Hong Kong.

We might have to go with a columbarium due to size constraints and we absolutely can't let Jeff Ruby run the thing, but it would add a lot of appeal to the riverfront and add an alternative to people's choices for interment. Given Cincinnati's and Cincinnatian's connection to the Ohio River, it seems a lot of people would want to connect their remains to the river.
This Necropolis is meant to float in the middle of the Dead Sea.

More Personal Freedom
As a person who has bike camped I certainly see the merit to this product, Palcohol. As a person who has 'snorted' before, I can difinitely say the guy is right about snorting that whole bag vs. slamming down the shot.
Of course, our fearless leaders in Columbus are working on aborting Palcohol. Typical pro business, small limited government I guess…
Why don't we see how this works before we take on more prohibitions?
Probably tastes like crap, anyway.

Rails to Runways
Th Cincinnati Business Courier reports on a plan to run a train from CVG to downtown Cincinnati.
I don't really get it. Driving, taking taxis or using the TANK shuttle bus, I have never encountered traffic issues using the roadways to get to the airport.
Pretty much nobody uses the shuttle bus with premium seats & a TV to boot. Seems to pretty much just used by airport workers.
If I were driving from Finneytown or Felicity, I don't know why I would stop in downtown Cincinnati rather than just keep on the highway & go to the airport. I guess, in the wintertime, it might be nice to park in a garage rather than park outside on a high plain.
Another plan is to run the train to Union Terminal. That would mean another bus ride or a bikeshare run to the Government Square which would be obnoxious with much luggage.

High Tech Urns
With the advent of 3D printing, 3D scanning & modeling, your funerary urn designs about limitless nowadays. Imagine an urn shaped like your head? Your skull? Your BUTT!?!?!

Your Intertube Immortality
The Uniform Law Commission is plotting ways for your online life to be handled in a secure way.
If your account goes dormant for long some providers just delete you. If your death is confirmed some places freeze your accounts.
Technically you are not allowed to let other people use your accounts as part of your terms of service with FaceBook & the like so you're not really allowed to let the executor of your estate access your stuff. Even if you did & put all your passwords into your will, that would become a public document after your demise. Seems like that last part has to have some kind of fix just going back to safe combinations. I dunno.
Anyway these guys are going to fix everything & change the service providers' TOSs.

Heritage
Music Hall & Union Terminal want a county wide sales tax to do some renovations.
Hamilton County Commissioner Greg Hartman says it's not his problem, the city needs to take care of it.
The Fishwarp tries to explain who owns what.
It's cute that Hartman doesn't say what he wants from the city - he just says he wants more.
But here's the thing, a lot of the people in Hamilton County, outside the city limits, have roots in the city limits with parents, grandparents, school, church, work & such. Many of their ancestors were the people who built & used these places originally.
How did they wind up out of town? I dunno, new house, bigger yard, avoid the hustle & bustle, avoid black people? whatever…
This shouldn't be a divisive issue & Hartman is clearly trying to make it one.

Whom the Gods Would Destroy
The latest came in a video article at Fortune.
So, why is the current mayor so hell bent on turning everything around?
Cincinnati Magazine has an interesting piece on the Mad King.
"During the campaign he had asked me to support him, and [said] that if he were to be elected, I would be his vice mayor, says [Wendell] Young. "He supported me when I ran, which made it very difficult to say no to him when he wanted my support. But I didn't like the people around him. It was never a case of not liking him. It was what I could see that he was going to owe—and who he was going to owe favors to—that was a problem for me." Among the folks Young is alluding to is the Coalition Opposed to Additional Spending and Taxes (COAST), the anti-tax, anti-development, anti-gay, anti-public projects, and anti-tax break (usually) group that reliably despises and belittles Democrats but made a point of giving Cranley an endorsement (which he ultimately rejected) in the middle of a campaign that he eventually won by peeling off votes from COAST-friendly demographics.Could it be that in Cranley's quest for power the web of favors he now owes has slowly been driving him mad? Why else would he want to tear asunder what so many see as a shining gem?
"I think, at center, he's a decent guy," says Young of the mayor. "I think he cares about the city—I really do mean that. It’s just that I'm not really able to talk about the new John Cranley because he’s a guy I don't know."

Computer Fun
ok, I don't really know if this is Firefox, Fedora Linux, Gnome or what.
My Firefox of unknown version on some version of Fedora, on some version of Gnome on an old secondhand Dell decided to take up the whole screen. It wasn't 'Maximised', it just took up the whole screen & I couldn't grab the lower right corner to resize the window.
The crappy old second hand Dell was already at iot's maximum resolution. ok, I guess I could have poked around & found the video.conf file (or whatever it's called) and typed in a higher resolution but I was looking for a more logical solution.
I poked around online for awhile. Saw all sorts of crap about maximizing & text zoom. I was told that using the whole screen is the proper way to use a computer.
Nothing.
So I took to monkey clicking.
My solution was to hold down the blank key between Ctrl & Alt & press the down arrow key.
well, of course.
Holding down the mystery key & pressing the left & right arrow keys made the browser window take up the full height of the screen, half the width and bank the window to that side of the screen. Not sure what that's for but it afforded about 22 seconds of fun.
So there ya have it.

People in Politics
In what appears to be a fairly lightweight political YooToob show, Dude interviews people engaged in Ohio politics to see what makes them tick.
Most of the ints so far appear to be focussed in the Clevo area but Cincinnati city councilman PG Sittenfeld was recently interviewed.
Anyway, out of the box coverage of the politicians is always good.
Well, maybe not always.
whatever....
Pickin' the wrong white guy
There have been assaults on whites by blacks that look pretty racially motivated. Maybe not the act, per se, but the choice of victim at least. The attack might just be plain mad dog visciousness.
But, whether bored beatings or serial beatings, racial charges are never filed.
Until the County Prosecutor's son gets attacked.
Now there's charges of felonious assault, ethnic intimidation, aggravated riot and two misdemeanor counts of assault.
Assistant Ohio Attorney General Woody Breyer sees the racial motivation in this sentence, "let's get the (epithet) white guy"
Seriously? You don't think that might have just been an identification?
Black tweens do sadistically attack white men. There is a race motive. This isn't the first time. It's just the first time somebody with connections got attacked.

oh, the humanity...
Here WKRC informs us of a road closure due to streetcar constructure.
They don't mention that it's one block & dead as a doornail.
Here WKRC tells us how construction in downtown Cincinnati is destroying businesses.
So, here's my question - Why didn't they interview the displaced hookers on Henry?
Why didn't they interview the napping mailman who drank his lunch at Charlie's and would then park his truck by the Moerlein loading dock?
why, WKRC, why?

A Modest Proposal
Given the controversy over both a bridge over the Ohio & the architecture along the Ohio in the Queen City, I propose we take a focussed approach to the tow matters together.
How about using Asgard and the Rainbow Bridge as a template for future development?
Asgard, of course would point up Cincinnati's German heritage & the Rainbow Bridge would point up the city's multicultural friendliness.
Imagine the bridge shimmering in the night! The region would quickly become an international destinaation. When people drive between Ohio & Kentucky they will know the aren't in Kansas anymore!

Ohio AG DeWine to open door for Sharia law in Ohio
In a survey by Ohio's Condemned to Life organization, Mike Dewine said, he would “work actively” to revoke state laws and local ordinances that upset people’s religious beliefs.
And that all levels of government should define marriage as an institution solely for opposite-sex couples.
This theocracy based philosophy in a society that allows for freedom of religion opens up a whole bew bucket of worms. Will Sharia law be tolerated? Jewish, Hindu? Will DeWine “work actively” to permit open air cremation? Will DeWine “work actively” to allow human & animal sacrifice?
Will “work actively” to deny Presbyterians & The United Church of Christ the power o marry who they want? Without upsetting their religious beliefs, that is.

Cyclists on the Roadway
The emphasis on People is what I think is most important.
Leadership or Tribal Ideology
After the state cut funding for County, Township & Municipality service - funding put in place when enacting an income tax, safety became an issue. The local governments lost money that went to pay highly skilled, highly paid personnel.
One of the changes in law enforcement & public safety that's come about over the years is the use of relatively inexpensive electronic surveillance devices.
The state who in their great wisdom forced local safety agencies to tighten their belts has decided that using inexpensive tech to augment their services is a non starter. They want to outlaw traffic cameras completely.
Wouldn't it make more sense for Seitz, Mallory & the rest of the unholy cabal in Columbus to regulate rather than ban these modern systems?
When Cincinnati looked at red light cameras, they made an effort to not make the mistakes other cities had made before. The fear mongering lies spouted by COAST & the NAACP put the kibosh on one of the best planned systems in the country.
But the state of Ohio could demand:

But the state of Ohio could demand:
- All citations must be issued by a local police officer
- Service providers cannot profit from issuing more tickets - flat fees only
- The presence of cameras must be announced via signage
- Only traffic & Police can pick the locations of cameras to avoid politicizing their use

So how come the cops haven't been able to tranq the guy & haul him off to wild & wooly Warren County? Muskingham county cops managed to slaughter 50 exotic animals in the time it's taken Hamilton county cops to let the bear wander into bucolic Oakley.

Engineering Safety
There's an intersection in Cincinnati that folks have identified as being clearly engineered poorly.
Two neighborhood/light industrial streets with plenty of screwed up pavement from utility work, they have 25 MPH speed limits (ignored) and the east west street has a standard stop sign. Traveling east from the intersection leads to a dead end.
Bothe streets are flat & they intersect at right angles.

Looking east

Looking north

Looking west

Looking south A clear engineering failure and an obvious calamity waiting to happen.
The American auto lobby would tell us to widen the streets and raise the speed limits. Holland would tell us to get rid of the stop signs. Folks in the neighborhood who routinely complain about the rough roads want speed bumps AKA, nicely paved rough roads that are a disaster for bicyclists & snowplows.
One way to draw attention to the intersection would be to install a dozen girls marching in a circle in the intersection wearing cowboy boots, glittery swimsuits and waving flags, singing & shooting pistols in the air.
The thing is - why do we see it as an engineering problem?
When people misuse guns, there's no shortage of folks screaming to take away guns. When people misuse their cars - it's a traffic engineering problem. I don't get it.
How about yanking more drivers licenses? If people prove they cannot use a deadly machine on public roadways, don't let them !
Meanwhile, we can work on engineering safer guns.
I guess...

Heroin & Tolls
As the talk about building a new bridge between Covington & Cincinnati that would require tolls for financing goes on (&on&on&on) there's another discussion about heroin abuse, an epidemic that has people crossing state lines over the existing bridgs.
What would tolling the bridges, existing & new due to the cross state heroin trade?
Tolls for the imagined bridge would all need to go to that bridge but tolls on the other bridges could go to not only the new bridge & existing bridge maintenance but some could go to chemical dependency programs as well.
Of course, getting stuck in traffic on the bridges would also afford a guy a great opportunity to shoot up…

Asphalt Abattoir
We need to face facts, the experiment has failed. The idea of the average citizen rolling around in a ton of steel wielding the power of hundreds of horses on city streets might have sounded great - but it doesn't work.
Besides the astronomical death rates, the maimings & crippling injuries, there is also the physical costs of obesity, heart disease, diabetes & such. Add to that the psychological cost of social isolation and the damage of talk radio taking advantage of that isolation. The automobile experiment has been a colassal failure & can probably be blamed for much of our society's ills.
They don't work - we need to remove them from America's roadways.
The damage in the picture above happened when a motorist cavalierly turned left in front of an oncoming cyclist who crashed int o the passengr side door face first.
While she will require extensive reconstructive surgeries, she is lucky she didn't lose her eyes or get her neck broken. The motorists inattentativeness also resulted in injuries to the passenger. A driver is responsible for his passengers.
Get cars off the road. Lets bring roadway deaths back to the 100s, away from the current tens of thousands.

Voting
Voter turnout in the latest Afghanistan presidential election was roughly the same as the last US presidential election of about 60%.
In Afghanistan about 50 people were murdered while trying to vote. That would be about 500 on the US. Pretty much nobody gets murdered trying to vote in the US. Probably the most common cause of death in voting in the US is people crashing their cars.
Sad that Americans, in their apathy, can only muster the same voter turnout as a country where the voters are threatened by terrorist violence.

Get a Horse
If you have cars, you can't have nice things. Motorists careen into themselves, pedestrians, cyclists, buildings, monuments... Their lust for carnage is unquenchable.
In 24 hours, motorists have struck 2 horse drawn carriages on an Ohio River bridge sending drivers & passengers of the carriages flying across the span high above the river.
This must stop. We need to ban automobiles on the city streets. Relegate their use to the interstate highways. Install governors to keep them from going over 35 MPH.
This nonsense needs to stop.

Mann Tackles Scalping
Cincinnati had an anti-scalping law but repealed it in 1982 - when Mann was in office. Why he's all hot on scalping now is anybody's guess.
Ohio has no anti-scalping laws & lets cities do what they want. Cincinnati quasi bans street scalping & requires some kind of license to resell from an office but internet sales go beyond the city's reach.
Scalping in Cincinnati went big time in the 90s when Bill Meister took to hiring people to buy tickets that he would resell. This came to a head when he managed to score almost half the seats for a Prince Purple Rain show.
Nowadays you just write/buy a program and bypass the pesky employees.
The current Lumenocity fracas was kind of inevitable & unfortunate but the only way to get around it is for the people to just not buy from scalpers. Of course then Prince would have played to a half empty arena & Washington Park would be about half empty for Lumenocity 2014, so…..
But I have no idea what Mann intends to do NOW. He's been around for all the other scalping controversies. He's been in legislative positions during those issues. How did he vote on repealing the anti-scalping law that was in place in the 80s?
Dude's weird...

Will all great Neptune’s ocean wash this blood clean from his hand?
Bill Seitz is, apparently, able to see into the hearts of municipal legislators & see them for the greedy liars that they truly are.
After Columbus stripped cities of funding used to cover police & fire departments, they now want to put further burdens on them by outlawing technology that frees up police & cuts down on emergency runs by the fire departments.
And what will the costs to society be when the cameras with proven track records of improved safety be?
Mr Seitz - the blood and carnage will be all yours.

In 2007, 90 crashes occurred at the 10 intersections with red light cameras. In 2012, the number dropped to 48 crashes. The legislation would cost cities across Ohio about $77 million to keep their programs operational.

Low Voter Turnout?
Brain damaged Cecil Thomas narrowly edged out ethically challenged Dale Mallory for the Democratic nomination for an Ohio Senate position and will likely win.
The Republicans installed a 'placeholder' and now the mentally challenged self help scammer, Charlie Winburn has slimed his way into the position.
It's pretty much Tweedledee & Tweedledum for that district senate seat.
Then, of course, there's the question of who would take Winburn's seat on city council. Very likely Sam Malone would finish out the majority of Winburn's term.
So, what's the point of voting?

Downtown Bob City
The building on the left is gone and replaced with a 7/8 scale hotel & the building center right is gone. The building on the right in the foreground is fairly abandoned & the tall building on the right is about condemned.
The Clark County Historical society is in the center left building in bustling heart of the city center.

Net Neutrality
One of the bitches about this is that there is a third party, the content owners who don't want you to have tapes & disks in your hot little hands. They want you to stream their stuff so you can't steal it from them - like they are great conservators of their own stuff.

Bodybags Redux
Last summer there was a case where an Ohio woman used a Kentucky funeral home to cremate her son & had the funeral director split the ashes into 4 bags. The woman was infuriated that he used leftover WalMart bags while the funeral director was kind of freaked out about splitting up the remains.
How the laws in Ohio & Kentucky apply here, I don't know. I couldn't find anything in Ohio about splitting up cremated remains.
You cannot commingle multiple people's remains but you can scatter ashes where other people's ashes have already been scattered which sounds like commingling to me but what do I know?
In Florida the court recently ruled that cremated remains are not 'property' and, as such, cannot be divided. That makes sense to me but then I am more into burial so maybe that influences my opinion as I wouldn't dream of being chopped up and sending an arm here & a leg there.
Meanwhile, I think Ohio should go back to the drawing board.

Character is Destiny
Heart of BalchikOK, I'm going with Google Translate here…
Character is destiny.
I bless you, dear Romania, country joys and sorrows of my beautiful country you live in my heart and whose paths I've known all. Beautiful country that I saw whole, whose fate I was allowed to see it fulfilled. Be eternally abundant you be great and full of honor, lofty ever sit among the nations, to be honest, loved and understanding. "Queen Marie can I help you?"
So, apparently this town, Balchik, on the coast of the Black Sea, has gone back & forth between Romania & Bulgaria a number of times but was under Romanian rule while Queen Marie was around & she really like the place.
Looks like someplace out of a fairy tale. Anyway, pretty picture, pretty song...

HamCoDems get their own 'Tea Party'
It appears the local Democratic Party is getting sort of Tea Bagged by the younger members who are more interested in policy than partisan power mongering.
HamCoDem Chair Tim Burke doesn't get it. Neither does Tom Luken who fired off this LTE complaining about being marginalized by non-senile people who don't shout at the sky.
Younger people are asking who ARE these people named Tillery, Reece, Mallory, and Luken who hold so much power in the party seemingly by just name recognition. Maybe they are the ones who know where the bones lie…

Mark of the Beast
While I get the magic oriented theocratic OCA wants to ban gay marriage, abortion, child birth aid, stem cell stuff & other 'unnatural' things and toss out the First Amendment along the way, their latest scheme is a little different.
They are pushing hard for everybody who wants to vote to have a government issued photo ID.
That's nothing Christian. If anything, it's more like anti christ type stuff as in Mark of the Beast? Maybe they think your own mark, your signature, is some kind of horrible gnostic crap assuming too much personal divinity.
Beats me - they're freaks.

Is John Cranley an Alien From Outer Space ?
Besides being awkward and uncomfortable, he also says some really weird shit.
I have heard Cincinnatians talk on national stages and, as a non-native Porktowner, wondered why they thought ANYBODY would know ANYTHING about Cincinnati. A phrase you don't hear much around Cincinnati but used to be popular was, "I will gown to Fountain Square and tell everybody …". This was used when somebody wanted to point out that they would publicly stake their reputation on something. Nobody outside of Cincinnati would have an idea what they were talking about but Billy Cunningham said it on the Phil Donahue show and I thought - weird. I had an employer who would tell people he would suck their dicks on Fountain Square if he was wrong about something but I think that had something to do with some weird sex issues….
But I digress.
We were fortunate that he went to NYC with a talented spokeswoman.
Given the awkwardness, bizarreness, discomfort with other people & just the weird shape of the guy, I'm wondering if maybe he's actually a shape shifting, blood drinking, illuminati alien lizard Annunaki man. Maybe even something silicon based with irradescent insect wings.
Maybe, with the right sunglasses we might be able to see him in his alien form. Has anybody seen him naked and lived to tell the tale? Has anybody seen his blood?
Maybe dude should go down to Fountain Square and cut his wrists to prove that he doesn't actually have golden acid blood. He campaigned on bringing transparency to the mayor's office - how could he refuse?
